What is it?

With the Hierarchy Based Sort utility you can sort a list in Excel based on hierarchy (i.e. parent/child) relationships.

Utility Definitions:
General
Column Row:
The row that contains the column header names

Data Start Row:
The first row of the list to sort

Data End Row:
The last row of the list to sort


Sort Settings
Item Column:
The column that contains the list of the parent and child names. Toggle ascending or descending for the desired sort result.

Parent Reference Column:
The column that contains the list of the parent and child names.


Top Level Column
Top Level Column:
The column that contains the name of the top item name in the hierarchy list. This is utilized when more than one hierarchy list exists within the same worksheet in order to sort/place the items in their correct hierarchy list when sorting. Toggle ascending or descending for the desired sort result.
